Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) is a Hunter region provider for mental health services for identified young people (0-17 years) in the public sector. The service provides assessment and treatment of children and their families where a child is exhibiting, is suspected of having, or is at risk of developing emotional and psychological problems. CAMHS provides a range of specialist mental health services in both community and inpatient settings across Hunter New England to infants, children, young people, their families and carers with a view to optimising mental health outcomes. In addition, CAMHS provides a range of prevention, promotion and early intervention activities that aim to increase awareness of mental health issues for children and young people.
CAMHS also aims to improve early detection and intervention in the development of mental illness and to actively promote mental health and wellbeing. Wiyiliin Ta provides assessments of emotional wellbeing issues for children and adolescents from an Aboriginal background. Staff work in close partnership with Awabakal Medical Centre.
