The NSW Ombudsman is an independent and impartial watchdog. We watch over most public sector and many private sector agencies and their staff. Our role is to make sure these agencies and their staff do their jobs properly, meeting their responsibilities to the community. The current Ombudsman is Professor John McMillan. We help agencies within our jurisdiction to address problems with their performance. These problems may be uncovered by complaints from the public or by people who work for those agencies. Problems may also come to our attention through our work in scrutinising agency systems, overseeing investigations or reviewing the delivery of services. Complaint enquiries: Monday to Friday 9am – 4pm (call first to ensure our staff are available to see you and that your complaint is within our jurisdiction).
